Words to describe fear

Fear

If you have a “fear” of something, you’re frightened of that thing, and it makes you nervous.

“I’ve got a fear of heights.”

Scared

If you’re “scared” of something, you’re frightened of that thing, and it makes you worried or insecure. It’s the same as “afraid”.

“I’m scared of clowns. / I’m afraid of clowns.”

Get through

If you “get through” a bad experience, you survive it and nothing bad happens to you.

“Being lost and alone in the forest for 5 days was a terrible experience, but she managed to get through it.”

Make sure

If you “make sure” something happens, you do everything you can to see that it happens.

“We’ll do everything we can to make sure the package arrives in time.”

Failure

If there’s a “failure”, someone doesn’t succeed or do well at something.

“The project was a complete failure and we lost lots of money.”
